Join us on March 10, 2021 at 6:30 pm via Zoom for a presentation by our Vice-President and Member, Sean Werle.
Sean is a retired underwater photographer and scientist. He moved from Massachusetts to California just a few years ago and found that retirement gave him more time to seek out and photograph butterflies, dragonflies, wildflowers and other Sierra Foothill flora and fauna. Sean records the location, date and time of his photographs and uploads the images and the information about them to various scientific websites.
Sean will be speaking to the Mariposa Photo Club about some of the ways that photographers can contribute to valuable citizen science efforts with their photographs. Specifically, he will talk about and demonstrate how photographers can contribute to BAMONA (Butterflies and Moths of North America), Odonata Central (dragonflies and damselflies), Calflora (plants), and eBird. These are valuable projects building huge databases of verified biological sightings, and they provide great incentives for nature photographers to “go hunting” and know that their photographs will contribute more than just beauty to the world.
